How do I get negative things off my credit report?

felix m asked:

I have 5 negative things on my credit report that I paid off, but I want them removed entirely off. Is there anything I could do to accomplish this?

You pay them off or you wait 7 years like everybody else and cross your fingers and hope that they do not extend the reporting time another 7 years.

    Start disputing, disputing, disputing!!!!!!!!
I got a total of 7 things removed by myself without paying a credit repair company this past year.
    I like the blog
I found it last year and it got me started on the road to repairing my credit.

Derogatory items age off your credit report 7-1/2 years from the date of first deficiency, whether paid or unpaid. You have to wait it out. The older the item, the less impact on your score.

If you try the old “dispute everything and hope it falls thru the cracks” method, something might fall off but will probably come back when the creditor next updates to the credit bureau. Make false disputes, especially repeatedly disputing the same thing over and over, will get you tagged by the credit bureaus. You will have a hard time getting any legitimate errors corrected in the future.

    Credit Repair Agency:
Places that advertise that they remove bad credit for you demand an upfront fee and a monthly payment that can go for years. They have no incentive to do it quickly. There is no reason you cannot do the same work that they do yourself, but with the help of some good software. This way you only pay the price of the software and are not further obligated.

    Doing it yourself:
Though you could do much of the work yourself, you will probably make mistakes and these mistakes are very hard to undo once they occur. There is only a one time fee for the software and considering the positive returns it can give you and the ease that it provides you with, it is a no-brainer.

Best option is to use a Credeit Repair Software yourself:
The main power using software is that it is self-directed and not do-it-yourself. A reasonable comparison would be to some of the better self-directed income tax programs like turbo tax that are so popular now even including video and audio instructions! The software takes you step-by-step through a point and click method that automates all of the output that is going to the credit agencies. You do not need to know legalese or not even an address because the software takes care of it for you. The credit agencies are required to respond to inquiries from you that certain items are erroneous or wrong or even that you don’t remember them. If they fail to respond within a certain period of time, then the information is removed by default.
