How do you get something good on your credit report?

asked:

I have been paying on a car and I have one last payment. How do I get that to show up on my credit report? That way it will show when I try and get a loan at the bank.

Only the lender can report accounts to the credit bureaus. You can’t “self report.”

it should be there if you had a car loan through a bank. If it was through a person it won’t show.

Go to your bank and get a secured credit card if you have bad credit this is the best option. Give them 500 they will give you a 500 limit on a visa or mastercard. When you make your payments ontime it will build your credit. Or you can get a regular credit card if you have good creidit and make the minimal payment every month thatll build it. Pretty much any line of credit you get that you keep in good standing you will get a boost in your credit. As for having the loan place report on your creidt repot not sure. Im sure your score has booosted though.

call the credit card issuer and ask them if and which credit bureau they report to. if it’s a credit card most likely they will report to at least one credit bureau.

Was this a buy here / pay here deal? Or maybe a really small bank?
No one is required to report anything on your credit report.

If you’re going through an official lender, your timely car payments will already be on your credit report, along with your timely credit card payments and other debts you’ve paid off. If you’re paying off the car to a private individual, there’s no way of having that added. Even if a private individual could tell the credit bureaus that you’ve been making timely payments, they won’t trust that individual’s opinion.

If you want to know what your credit report looks like, look it up! There are many web sites that do this; I’m providing a link to the one with the catchy jingle.
