you can check your credit for free at freecreditreport.com – once a year. If you were denied credit- you can ask the company to send you a copy of the report that they used in which they made their determination. Many times there are several inquires on your credit that you did not ask for – which lowers your score. All those “offers” for credit cards- means that the companies have most likely reviewed your credit. Once you obtain your report- you can write Trans-union, Equifax and Experian ( must write all three) and ask that the inquires be removed from your credit report. SOmetimes you have to write a few times- but it is worth it! Depending on the number of inquires on your report- your score can increase 50-175 points by removing them!
